An extraordinary contributor to the fields of chemistry, enzymology, natural products biosynthesis, and to Brown's Chemistry Department since 1973, Prof. Cane taught his last Biochemistry class this May. Prof. Cane is an exceptional scientist, an outstanding and impactful teacher and mentor. Perhaps, most importantly, Prof. Cane has always been a strong advocate for doing what is right rather than what is easy. Although he will no longer teach courses, Prof. Cane will have an active research role for the next few years and, we hope, will be available to anyone who seeks his guidance. We wish him all the best in this next phase of his career and thank him for allowing this community to benefit from his wisdom and generosity.
